Well, to start, you should know that meditation before running brings more benefits to mental health than doing either of them separately. It’s also proven how, when done together, they can help those facing depression.

Here are some key points from the new study, published last month in Translational Psychiatry:

  • The study proved that the synergy helps individuals alleviate depressive thoughts and feelings over time.
  • The study confirmed that meditation before running is more beneficial than doing these activities alone.
  • The participants experienced a diminishing inclination to ruminate over bad memories, which is a major case of depression.
  • The collaboration brought positive results to even those practitioners who are not inflicted with depression of any level.
  • The growth of new brain cells or neurons was reported among participants, which is often prevented during depression.

The study was conducted on a total of 52 men and women, and out of them, 22 were diagnosed with depression. It was a short study which lasted for 8 weeks in total and the researchers also did not follow up with the study to gauge whether the mood improvement lingered on or not.

During the study, synergistic effects were delivered on the brains of participants. It was found that the mood gets better and the intensity of depression gets lower in a gradual manner. It was also found that participants showed an increased level of concentration and attention span.



It’s obvious how mediation and running can combine to help people with depression. The study was, however, small but ended up peeking into an area we could not till now. In a way, it is surely an interesting study whose findings bring some hope to those facing depression for long.

However, before you agree to an update you have to make sure it’s legitimate. Bogus update notifications are a common type of scam, so don’t trust any emails or pop-ups that don’t come from the app itself. Instead, open up the program and look for an update option.

This is related to the previous point. Most legitimate companies and services, such as your bank, will contact you through their apps rather than sending you an email. If you get an email that’s purporting to be from your bank or another similar service, sign into the app yourself rather than clicking on any provided link. An email could be a phishing scam that will take you to a fake site and harvest your information. Likewise, never type your credit card information directly into an email. Real companies and organizations will never ask you to do this!


Secondly, only open emails and attachments that you can verify are safe. If the email comes from someone you know but sounds strange, ask the person whether they sent it. Sometimes cybercriminals will hack someone’s email to send out bogus emails and trap others. If you don’t recognize the source, then definitely don’t open it! Report it to your email provider as spam instead and delete it.


Lastly, don’t trust free software. Whether it’s cracked and pirated or offered for free, make sure it’s from a trusted source before you download it. Often these .exe files will come loaded with viruses and malware, and they can sneak around your anti-virus because technically you agreed to download them.

There is a greater danger of loss or theft with mobile phones than with laptops or desktops, so it’s extra important to keep physical security in mind. Setting a lock screen password that you have to type in to access your phone will ensure that even if the worst happens, a thief couldn’t breach your accounts by simply starting up your phone.

Even though it might sound cliché, it is actually a very important part of coping. Be like me this year, and organize pyjama and nailpolish parties for your adult friends – boys, girls and cupcakes! Organize even snazzier fancy parties just for yourself. Buy a toy crown and wear it around the house, you will literally feel the power of adulthood pour out of you, it’s great and you should totally do it.







You are given the opportunity to entertain at your own time, to the sound of your own drum. And no matter how switching to solitude (most of the time) can scare you, it is important to keep an open mind and learn to appreciate yourself more. It won’t be long before you decide one-person dance parties are preferable to a night of unbearable clubbing!


The next thing you need to learn is to value your freedom. It is really important to look at this as a positive change. At first, you might have a difficult time adjusting to an empty house and you might experience loneliness (word of advice, do not move into a large empty house by yourself. It is bad for your psyche, and it is bad for cleaning days. It is worst around Halloween). Shortly after, you will learn to value your freedom. This means that you will finally have the ability to do whatever pleases you without worrying if that will bother somebody else or if others will agree. This is a great opportunity to learn more about yourself. You will become the one and only owner of the remote control.




Perhaps one of the most valuable things that you will learn when you move into your new home is, of course, how it feels to be independent. Although this might come as a shock, overwhelming at times, you will learn to go with the flow and love it! Sure, paying bills, cooking for one, and doing your own laundry are just some of the things that you will need to learn in order to support yourself. Fortunately, nowadays, with internet and technology, even simple chores can be managed more easily. Taking care of yourself will never be a breeze, but millenials will prefer paying rents through apps. Cleaning up is a drag, but if you make like Freddy Mercury and make it a musical about your young-adult angst, you’ll do better. You know you’re an adult when your list of Youtube tutorials expands from contouring tutorials to plumbing hacks!

Adapting to new changes can be quite difficult for some people. Moving away to live on your own should serve as a great learning experience. You may have learned a lot about life up to this point, but a month of solitary habitation will truly make you a force to be reckoned with in the wild world outside. Learn to make the best of every situation and you will learn that moving away is probably one of the best things you’ve done for yourself. Just keep in mind that living on your own does not mean losing contact with all your loved ones – your friends and family will always be just a phone call away, and remember to make those calls!



“Change is the only constant in life” is one of Heraclitus’ most accurate sayings; withstanding the test of time, it is now even more appropriate in today’s society than it has ever been before. With ever growing demands on our time, and a rapidly growing and developing technology industry that is constantly changing and shaping the workforce, it is easy to feel overwhelmed by all the changes that more often than not catch us unaware – in our personal and working environment.

Change is one of those inevitable forces in life – whether we choose to embrace or resist it – we have to expect it. Why is change such a challenge to deal with, and how you can manage it more effectively?

Why Is Change So Difficult To Cope With?

If you’ve ever felt utterly helpless to do anything about your change-related anxiety and stress, don’t worry, it’s perfectly natural. The first step to dealing with the problem, as with everything else, is understanding the issue, inside out – in this case, rather literally.

The problem with change is that we have a very natural resistance to it and the natural impulse that we have towards homoeostasis is not to be underestimated! It is a self-regulating system that is an essential life-sustaining force. From body temperature to heart rate and hormonal activity, the system makes sure that your body is not subjected to conditions that pose health risks, any longer than you are able to sustain them.

Homoeostasis is a system designed to keep stable conditions and quickly respond to any changes by resisting them and restoring the previous conditions. If this seems like biological mumbo-jumbo to you, you’d be surprised at how much this affects our everyday lives, including our behavioural, emotional and psychological patterns.

In more behavioural terms, homoeostasis manifests itself in our desire for routine and our wariness of change. On a more personal level, this may be seen in your unwillingness to leave an unhealthy relationship, and at work this may be reflected in your despair over a new set of procedures (which inevitably affects your work productivity and could stunt your career development).

It is also important to understand that you may experience homoeostatic fear regardless of the nature of the change; the system does not distinguish between good or bad changes, change is change, and so it is up to you to challenge the system and form your own perceptions of the changes.

Here are some ways that you can start to embrace change quicker and stop resisting the inevitable.

  1. Perception is everything:

According to Wayne Dyer, “If you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change” – he was definitely on to something there. No two people are likely to react in the exact same way when presented with the same situation, or in this case, change. Your attitude towards the changes you’re facing heavily impacts how well you deal with and adjust to them.

Challenge yourself to identify as many reasons as you can how the change will benefit you. This will help you achieve some clarity over the bigger picture, and to gain some control over the situation.
The more reasons you can find, the quicker the resistance will fade. ALSO, get clear on the cost of not changing, what happens if you don’t change and what does that mean for you?

Remind yourself of the benefits of change BUT also, the consequences of not changing!

2. Deal with the changes head on:

Instead of avoiding the change, take a proactive stance, take charge of the situation, and either search for a solution or an effective way of working around and/or within the change. Avoiding the problem doesn’t make it go way, it only makes it grow over time.

If the change feels too scary to confront, what will make this change easier?  Maybe you need more clarity on what the change means (common in a work environment) or maybe you need more support and you will feel better – you won’t know until you ask yourself, simple but not common practice.

3. Stay flexible:

As the saying goes, don’t put all your eggs into one basket – don’t make elaborate, long term plans that rely on everything staying exactly as it is. Don’t focus on what you don’t know or can’t do, but rather what you do know and what can you do with it and how can it help you with the change.

Be flexible along the change, change is not one stage. Have an open mind, ask questions and seek out any opportunities that will make the change process more effective. Chances are, things won’t always go according to plan, but this is not necessarily a bad thing, that is the reality.

4. Do not alienate yourself from the situation:

One of the most tempting things to do during a change is to emotionally and physically detach ourselves from the situation. Think about how the change makes you feel and how you want to feel about it, only then can you go about changing your attitude towards it. It is not the event which causes the emotions, but the meaning we give it.

If you are feeling bad about the change, ask yourself: what beliefs or thoughts are creating these feelings? And challenge those beliefs and thoughts for ones that will serve you better.

5. Accept the resistance:

Very simple, because it will always be there to some degree. You don’t have a choice in feeling the resistance or not, but you have a choice over how you manage it!

There are a few things in your life you should do every day. Those things will have a huge impact on your life and they will be very beneficial for your health, happiness and well being.

There are surely lots of other great things you may want to do on a daily basis, but if you only adopt those 5 habits listed below, you will enjoy a happy and fulfilled life.

#1: Eat healthy – your body will thank you

If you want to keep your body happy and healthy you need to make sure to eat healthy foods, such as fresh fruits and vegetables, drink enough water and avoid junk food as well as an excess of processed foods, sweets, alcohol…

You won’t feel the effects of bad nutritional habits immediately, but you surely will feel them in the long run. Just give it a try and adopt healthy eating habits for at least 1 month. You will be surprised how much better you feel. You will have more energy, be less tired during the day, sleep better, you will be able to concentrate better… and there are many other great benefits.

Believe me, changing your eating habits can change your entire life. You owe it to yourself. It requires some discipline at the beginning, but the huge benefits you gain from a healthy diet are well worth it.

#2: Enjoy your life in the here and now

The most important thing in your life is to feel good and it is important to do everything you can in order to be happy and to feel good right here and right now. Don’t put off your happiness for the future.

Don’t say you will enjoy your life 5 years from now when you made enough money or when you reached your career goals. If you put off your happiness for later, the time to be happy may never come.

Decide to be happy today. It doesn’t take a lot. Take a walk with your wife or husband. Enjoy a good movie. Take a relaxing bath…

The more you laugh, the happier you will be and life – a great life – is all about being happy and feeling simply great. Don’t worry what others may think or say about you; If you feel like it, simply laugh out loud and enjoy it.

There are all sorts of things that make me laugh, a good comedy, a dog playing in the park, children having fun, someone telling a joke…

I’m sure you can find at least some opportunities every day to laugh or smile.

#4: Move your body

Exercising your body is equally important as a healthy nutrition. I’m not saying you should go jogging or do a 2 hour workout at the gym every day. Exercising and moving your body can be as simple as taking a 15 minute walk 5 times a week.

What’s most important is that you do something on a regular basis. And doing just a little bit is still dar better than doing nothing at all. So, if you only have 5 minutes, then get some fresh air and take a 5-minute walk.

#5: Simply be yourself

This sounds simpler than it really is, but it’s tremendously important for your well being and happiness. No matter what others may think or say about you, simply be yourself, be authentic and do whatever you think is best for you.

Take off all those heavy, uncomfortable masks and allow yourself to be your true self.

4 Easy Ways To Boost Your Happiness

My perception of what happiness meant was skewed. Looking back, I now understand why I wasn’t happy. I thought that buying new things, going to expensive restaurants and living a life of luxury would make me happy. I was one of the lucky ones and I actually got to experience living life like that.

But it didn’t make me happy. I did however learn what can make me happy, and I think that sharing my experience can help you become happier too.

I will take you on a journey by going back in time and listing all the things I’ve done to become happy when I realized that money can merely make my life less stressful, but not much else.


I knew that I had to calm my mind and thus calm my feelings down so that I could then figure out what I want out of life. When the negative emotions are bubbling in us, we find it hard to make a realistic assessment of our current situation.

Meditating helped me relax deeply and fully, and after each session I was closer to my soul, to my essence, closer to realizing what I truly care about. It is such a pity that so many people are just like I was, thinking that new stuff will fill the emotional void they feel. And it might, but for just the briefest periods of time.


Exercise helps us in many ways. First, it keeps us healthier. We need to move our bodies so that it can function optimally. Exercise also helps create dopamine and serotonin, two chemicals in our bodies that both make us happier and alleviate a depressive mood.

Our minds and bodies are connected, and in order for each of them to be able to work on optimal level, we need to take good care of both.


I always despised the new agey culture of self improvement enthusiasts. But since I’ve started changing myself so much, I wanted to give hypnosis a try. Honestly, it is something I’ve always wanted to do, but was afraid of being ridiculed.

I learned that trying new things is a great way to expand our awareness. It turned out that we are in a state of hypnosis every day – anytime we are deeply immersed into an activity, any activity. A good example might be a great movie we get so tuned into, that the rest of the world seizes to exists for us until the movie ends.

The only difference is that a hypnotist would help us get into this state, but amplified, and would help us focus our awareness at the parts of our lives that need fixing.


Donating and later seeing those donations used to help people, particularly children, made me extremely hyped up. I’ve gotten into a frenzy and started donating money to charity left and right. Red Cross, Unicef, Mater Foundation through their house lotteries (which was rather fun), you name it.

There are few things as exciting as seeing people who need help receive it. So, even if you can’t afford to donate money, you can donate your old stuff or even better – your time.

Eventually, I’ve realized that these activities did make me happy. I’ve realized that when I go towards my goal, when I work hard on myself and especially on helping others out as much as I can, I am happy.
